There are two excellent primary state schools in the village; Burley and Woodhead Church of England Primary School and Burley Oaks Primary School. Burley and Woodhead, a single form entry school, is home to one of four English Hubs based in Yorkshire, it is also listed in the top 100 English state primary schools according to ‘The Sunday Times, Parent Power Schools Guide 2022’. Burley Oaks Primary School on Langford Lane, is a two form entry school and rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, the school’s ethos is to ‘Belong, Believe and Achieve’. The local independent preparatory school, Ghyll Royd School, Pre-School and Nursery, is set in a magnificent Victorian building called Greystone Manor, the manor grounds provide the school with excellent sports fields and outdoor facilities.

Ilkley Grammar School is a comprehensive academy rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and ranked seventh place in the top twenty state secondary schools in ‘The North’ according to ‘The Sunday Times, Parent Power Schools Guide 2022’. Located on Cowpasture Road in Ilkley, the school is easily accessed via bus or train from Burley in Wharfedale. St. Mary’s Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy is an 11-18 mixed secondary school and sixth form and rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Skipton Girl’s High School is a secondary school and sixth form, situated in the heart of the town of Skipton, North Yorkshire. It’s a highly successful school with high aspirations for every student. Ermysted’s Grammar School is a selective grammar school for boys aged 11-18 in Skipton and the surrounding areas. Skipton Girl’s and Ermysted’s came in second and third place respectively, in the top twenty state secondary schools in ‘The North’ according to ‘The Sunday Times, Parent Power Schools Guide 2022’.
Transport
Burley in Wharfedale train station runs regular services to Leeds City Centre, Bradford Foster Square and Ilkley. Travelling by car, the A660 runs from Leeds which then connects to the A65 to Burley in Wharfedale. Ilkley is less than 4 miles away and Harrogate is just a 30 minutes’ drive via the B6161. Leeds Bradford Airport is 6 ½ miles from Burley in Wharfedale on the A660

The Twelve Apostles is a historical landmark high on the Burley Moor. It is a stone circle that is approximately half an hour’s walk away from the Cow and Calf rocks car park. It’s well worth a walk here as it is set in a spectacular location and offers some amazing views of the surrounding landscape. Burley in Wharfedale is surrounded by fantastic countryside, with riverside walks on the doorstep. The River Wharfe stepping stones at Leather Bank cross to Asquith, Denton and beyond. The famous Cow and Calf is a large rock formation consisting of an outcrop and boulder, so named because one is large, with the smaller one sitting close to it, like a cow and calf. Also known as Hangingstone Rocks. Situated opposite the iconic rocks is The Cow and Calf hotel and pub, which offers awe-inspiring views.
