Here's a list of our top places and things to do in and around Burley in Wharfedale.

Ilkley Toy Museum

One for the kids but if we’re being totally honest it’s definitely for the grown-ups too. Ilkley Toy Museum is only a 10-minute drive away from our development, and we guarantee you’ll have hours of fun. The museum contains one of the finest private collections of toys in the North of England, and many of the exhibits feature dolls, dolls houses, teddy bears, tin plate toys, lead figures and a selection of games together with wooden and paper toys. This museum will be a total throwback to your childhood and will leave your children asking, ‘you played with that when you we’re young’?

Ilkley Manor House

Ilkley Manor House stands in the heart of Ilkley, and it is only an 11-minute drive from our development. The unique building dates from the 14th century and is built on the footprint of a Roman fort. Here you’ll learn the story of the house through time, exploring its connection to Ilkley’s heritage, landscape, people, and place in the wider world. You’ll have a fun day ahead of you as there’s the museum to explore, art exhibitions to see, live performances and even courtyard concerts. Make sure to check out their website to see dates when things are happening.

National Science & Media Museum

A 30-minute drive away from our development in the heart of Bradford you’ll find the National Science and Media Museum. Here, you’ll be able to explore the science and culture of image and sound technologies and their impact on our everyday lives. Their galleries and exhibition spaces investigate and celebrate photography, film, television, animation, videogames, and sound technologies. We think it's definitely one of the best places to visit with the kids on a weekend!

Cliffe Castle Museum & Art Gallery

In recent years Cliffe Castle has undergone a major restoration. You’ll be able to see sparkling Victorian rooms and furniture, paintings, and decorative art. Special galleries deal with natural history, archaeology, and social history, all of which can be seen on your visit along with the internationally important display of stained glass by Morris and Co.

The Castle also hosts changing exhibitions from their collections and the wider community throughout the year. Family areas ensure that there is something for all ages to enjoy and it is only 26-mintues away from our new homes at Greenholme Mews in Burley and Wharfedale.

Ilkley Cinema

This is a two-screen independent cinema in the heart of Yorkshire, showing a wide range of films alongside hosting other related events throughout the year. It also boasts a popular balcony terrace, bar, and lounge area serving food and drink. It truly is a cinema experience like no other and it is perfect for a trip with the kids or perhaps even a date.

Scenic Walks

If you fancy taking in the fresh Yorkshire air, why not try the Burley in Wharfedale Circular Walk. The walk is a steady 7.7km loop that offers scenic views and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips. You'll find it is best to walk from March – November.

Another walk that’s worth a try is the Heritage Walk - Cow and Calf. This walk only takes about an hour and takes you from the popular parking place at the Cow & Calf Rocks to the quieter areas beyond. It’s easy underfoot, on a good but rough path which has muddy patches after rain. Remember to take your camera, because you are guaranteed to see some amazing views during these walks.

So, there you have it, a few of our favourite things to do and places to see in and around Burley in Wharfedale.
