Your Guide To Living in Thorp Arch

24 Hours in Thorp Arch

Thorp Arch is a picturesque village in West Yorkshire, nestled between Boston Spa, Walton and Wetherby, on the north bank of the beautiful River Wharfe. Thorp Arch residents are lucky to be right in the middle of Leeds, York and Harrogate where there is literally something for everybody. Closer to home though there is still so much to enjoy, so here’s our insider’s guide to spending 24 hours in Thorp Arch.

9:00am and its breakfast time!

A short drive from Thorp Arch, is the beautiful market town of Wetherby and when it comes to getting breakfast although there is plenty of eateries to choose from, one of the most popular places is Pomfret’s of Wetherby. Situated on The Shambles, it is homemade heaven, serving quality food, cakes and pastries and not forgetting their very own skinny tinkers, their famous full English breakfasts and poached eggs.

10:00am and your chance to have a little flutter

Everybody loves a day at the races. Wetherby Racecourse has been open since 1891, and today is a first class race course with an extensive programme throughout the year including numerous family events. There are plenty of other events that make use of the huge event space (both indoors and outdoors) too, including antiques fairs, outdoor cinema events, dog shows and even car boot sales. If you are just interested in the racing side of things – you can always have a little flutter on either the sprint or the steeplechase.

13:30pm and it’s time for a spot of lunch.

Lunch could be taken at the racecourse in the White Rose Restaurant with a 2 course a la carte menu from £40.00 per person or if you are wanting something a little lighter there is always the option of afternoon tea whilst having a lovely view of the paddock. Then you can go back to either the premier enclosure or the paddock enclosure to watch a few more races and see if you can win enough money to pay for your lunch.

17:00pm means it’s time for a rest and a lovely dinner

After a busy afternoon at the races you’ll be ready for some home cooked comfort. The perfect place for this is the Fox and Hounds pub in Walton. Walton is a beautiful little village adjacent to Thorp Arch village. The pub is family run, serving fantastic, locally sourced food. You can enjoy meals that range from confit duck leg and roasted pork shoulder to the pub classics of fisherman’s pie and bangers & mash. There is also a children’s section and plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans.

23:00pm and after a busy day that means bedtime.

If you’re looking for an impressive place to stay near Thorp Arch, Hazelwood Castle is just a 15-minute car ride away. It is a four-star hotel set within 77 acres of beautiful woodland and landscape gardens. This hotel literally has it all, you can spend some quality, relaxing time in the spa or if you were feeling adventurous there is an activity centre within the grounds where you can do paintballing, quad biking and even axe throwing, so with all these options available you most certainly won’t get bored.
