A charming village near Wetherby
Thorp Arch
A small village sitting on the north bank of the beautiful River Wharf, Thorp Arch is situated between the larger nearby towns of Wetherby, Tascaster and Boston Spa, while the centre of Leeds itself it just a thirty minute drive away via the A64. Thorp Arch has it's own local primary school, although there are three other primary schools just across the river in Boston Spa as well, giving parents a good choice of schools to choose from. There's also the local village pub, The Pax Inn which is described as a "hidden gem in one of the areas most beautiful villages".
Schools
The Lady Elizabeth Hastings’ CE VA Primary School is a popular school in the village and was recently rated “Good” in their latest Ofsted report. Just outside the village is St Edward's Catholic Primary School, in the neighbouring village of Boston Spa giving parents an alternative choice for local primary education. For secondary education there is a choice of several nearby high schools including Wetherby High School, Boston Spa Academy and Temple Moor High School to name just a few.
Transport
Thorp Arch sits just off the A1 (M) at junction 45, making the nearby cities of Leeds and York both easily accessible.
For non drivers there are also regular bus services to Leeds, Wetherby, York, Wakefield
Cattal train station is just 15 minutes away by car and provides services to Leeds and York
Outdoors
Just a fifteen minute car journey from the village, Stockeld Park is a family friendly visitor attraction that boasts everything from an enchanted forest to an outdoor roller rink and electric buccaneer boats (and that’s just the start)! Set in the beautiful Yorkshire parkland belonging to the impressive Stockeld Park House, this really is one of the best local landmarks in the area and a huge bonus for families living nearby.
Food & drink
The Pax Inn is known for its hugely popular food menu which serves traditional British dishes in their comfortable restaurant. It also regularly hosts live music events and a recurring quiz night making it a real feature of village life in Thorp Arch.
Attractions
Wetherby Racecourse has been racing exclusively “over the sticks” since 1891. It maintains a busy and exciting racing calendar through the entire year as well as providing an impressive venue for conferencing, banqueting and other types of events be it indoors or outdoors. The racecourse is just under 10 minutes in the car or less than 50 minutes on foot from Thorp Arch, so it really is just on the doorstep.
