A Guide New Year Resolutions

New Year, New Home

January is the perfect time to turn over a new leaf, make a fresh start and get into habits you want to carry out throughout the year. Nearly EVERYONE starts the New Year with the best intentions, but it’s proven that most of us give up after only one week of trying! Take a look at a few of our ideas for New Year’s resolutions you still have time to make and actually stick to in 2021.

Get that body moving

It’s so important to get in those extra steps, and what better way to do so by exploring your new surroundings. Stepping outside your front door is the perfect first step… literally! All of our homes are built in suburban areas which means you have some of Yorkshire’s most amazing walks right on your doorstep! Here are a few of our favourites…

Yorkshire Sculpture Park -. There’s over 500 acres of beautiful landscaping to explore, with contemporary sculpture from both the permanent exhibition and the current exhibitions dotted throughout the environment.

Golden Acre Park - It is a stunning green space set in no less than 179 acres of woodland and gardens, all focused on an impressive lake.

Roundhay Park - One of the biggest parks in Europe may we add! There’s so much to do; pack a picnic, go on the playground, play tennis or just ramble around the place, visiting landmarks like the Mansion, the landscaped gardens and the old follies.

Joining a club

Want to meet new people in your area? By joining local clubs this will automatically allow you to meet people who share the same interests as you. Sports, book or craft clubs are a great start! If your interest or hobby is niche, then there’s nothing stopping you setting up your own club either. You never know, your new next door neighbour may LOVE the same things as you and BOOM, a friendship to last a lifetime.

If you hate the idea of meeting people in person straight away, why not look at joining Facebook Groups and start asking questions to get the conversation started. The great thing about these groups is they are full of like-minded people who are looking for similar or even the same things you are. You can gather information about the best places to visit, hidden gems in the local area, and the best restaurants and bars! You could even find your new BFF to visit these new places.

Learning a new language

Have you wanted to learn a new language for as long as you can remember but something has always stopped you? Well, 2021 is the perfect time to do so, we do after all, have a lot of free time on our hands!

The first step to learning a new language is to set goals for what you actually want to achieve. Research shows that people who set the right kind of goals are more likely to achieve success. Follow our guidelines to get the most from your goals:
  • Focus on specific, tangible outcomes – set detailed goals and focus on what you want to learn first rather than how much time it’s going to take you to do it.
  • Set short term goals – it’s great to have the ultimate goal as the thing you eventually want to achieve. But long term-goals are too overwhelming to motivate you every day. Try and break down your ultimate goal into smaller more manageable weekly or monthly goals.
  • Write down your goals – writing down your goals can help you commit to them. We suggest putting them around your home to be a constant reminder or even adding them as your phone screensaver.

Learn to cook something new

Everyone wants to eat healthier in the New Year, but why not take it one step further and mix up your foods and try something completely different. After all, variety is the spice of life! Why not aim to cook something you’ve never done before at least once a week to get your taste buds tingling over flavours you might not have tasted before. A few books we’re loving at the moment are:
  • 7 Ways, Jamie Oliver – Easy ideas for every day of the week
  • Speedy BOSH – Over 100 quick and easy plant-based meals in 30 minutes
  • East, Meera Sodha – 120 easy and delicious Asian-inspired vegetarian and vegan meals
  • Twochubbycubs The Cookbook, James Anderson – 100 tried and tested slimming recipes
Maybe you’re looking to upsize or downsize your home this year and not sure where to begin, your first goal could be to get in touch with us and we can help you achieve the rest of your goals.
