Discovering North Leeds

North Leeds is a huge area starting with inner north Leeds and expanding out into outer north Leeds. This vast suburban area includes places like Headingley, Roundhay, Scholes, Menston and Otley, all of which are known as affluent, popular places to live in the city. It's also full to the brim with Victorian architecture, history, rolling hills, beautiful greenery, plenty of independent and quirky shops and a great community spirit throughout each of the local villages.

The Victorian architecture that gives North Leeds it's unrivaled curb appeal is a reminder of the past, when the smog and smoke of the inner city of Leeds drove the wealthier Victorian's to build their mansions further out from the city centre, in the clean air of the countryside. Since the Victorian period, the city expanded and this countryside became suburbia, but while the smoke and smog may be a thing of the past, this balance between a quieter, more rural lifestyle yet with easy access to the city centre is something that still draws house buyers to the villages of North Leeds to this day.

Schools

The Grammar School at Leeds is an independent school for children aged 3 through to 18 and is consistently considered excellent in their GSAL inspections. Alternatively there is Richmond House, another independent school or if you prefer, there is Carr Manor Community School, rated Good in their recent Ofsted report.

Transport

  • Leeds Outer Ring Road, also known as the A6120, is a main strategic route for the city of Leeds. At approximately 25 miles long, it runs from Beeston to Bramley, almost circling the entire city. It also connects with the M1 motorway.

  • The A61 connects north and south Yorkshire, running almost parallel to the M1 from Sheffield through Leeds and up to Harrogate.

  • Headingley has its own train station, just off Kirkstall Lane, which operates regular trains into Leeds, Knaresborough and York.
