The Future For Leeds

There’s A Big Future Planned For Leeds

& Chartford Homeowners Can Benefit

Leeds home owners can look forward to reaping the benefits of some big future plans that are in place to transform this already lively northern city, into a real northern powerhouse. And if you’re considering moving to Leeds, now could be the perfect time to buy. So just what’s on the horizon for the future of Leeds?

Upgraded Public Transport

Although already incredibly well connected thanks to Leeds Railway Station and the M1 and M62 motorways, Leeds is set to become even more commuter friendly as a £270 million transport strategy is now on the cards.

Most notably the scheme will see a new parkway station built on the existing Leeds to Harrogate line at Leeds Airport and the creation of two other stations located at the White Rose Shopping Centre and the Thorpe Park Industrial/Retail Park.

The scheme will also include improvements to several existing stations as well as the provision of longer trains and more frequent services.

And as if this wasn’t impressive and exciting enough, Leeds Station is also set to become a key interchange for HS2 when the high speed rail service arrives in the city in 2033.

Taller Towers

The former British Gas headquarters site is set to be transformed into an impressive collection more than 5 brand new skyscrapers that will include cafes, workspaces, green spaces and a 180 room hotel.

The tallest tower is intended to be 41 storeys high, that’s 9 storey’s taller than Bridgewater Place!

It’s not just Bridge Street that’s getting taller though, Wade Lane is also on the list for a new skyscraper, this time one that’s 40 storeys tall. Details are still to be released revealing exactly what this tower will contain but expectations are it will be a mix of residential and commercial spaces.

Rejuvenation, Transformation & Redevelopment

Already underway, the continued rejuvenation of Leeds South Bank will see this vast space become a vibrant destination in the city, featuring thousands of new homes and a number of public spaces including a huge park to rival even Roundhay.

Once completed, this will be one of the largest re-development projects in Europe and will extend the central area of Leeds by another 185 hectares.

One specific site in the South Bank area set for redevelopment is the old Tetley Brewery grounds. The plans are to build thirteen separate buildings in the space available, all connected by green patches.

The buildings will house space for offices, homes, shops, bars, restaurants, gyms and even a hotel. It’s an impressive scheme that will continue the success of the already revamped Tetley headquarters building, which is now one of Leeds’ contemporary art galleries.

Elsewhere in South Bank, new plans for the Temple Quarter will redevelop the former industrial hotspot between Globe Road and Water Lane into a mix of offices and residential space characterised by two huge towers if the proposals come to fruition.

With the new south entrance of the train station providing direct access to this particular area, it’s virtually guaranteed to become one of the city’s busiest areas.

It’s not all about South Bank though, Leeds Kirkgate will also benefit from the transformation of First White Cloth Hall from the ‘at risk’, derelict building it is today, into a fully refurbished landmark building.

Exactly what the building will become in terms of its future use has not yet been revealed, but owners Rushbond who also own the landmark Majestic building can certainly be relied upon to create something beautiful.
