Drighlington is a village and civil parish in the City of Leeds metropolitan district, West Yorkshire. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the village lies 5 miles south west of Leeds and 4 miles south east of Bradford. This close proximity to two of West Yorkshire's biggest cities means the town has a Bradford postcode AND the Leeds telephone prefix!

A day out at Oakwell Hall Country Park

Step back in time to the 1960’s and post-English civil war. This historical house is set in over 110 acers of Country Park and features a nature rail, visitor centre, picnic site and playground. The open grounds are ideal for children and dogs, so it’s a real family affair! They also have free car parking, toilet facilities, a gift shop and a café.

Alhambra Theatre

The Alhambra Theatre is regarded as the North's premier receiving venue and hosts the best in large scale entertainment from international dance to musicals, drama and Yorkshire's biggest panto. Seating up to 1,400 people, the theatre is a popular choice for major touring companies such as Northern Ballet, Disney, the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures and Cameron Mackintosh. It’s staged major West End shows including The Lion King, War Horse, Billy Elliot, Wicked and Mary Poppins. So let’s just say, you won’t be short of entertainment!

 

Ponderosa Zoo

If you fancy a day trip with the little (and big) ones, Ponderosa Zoo is only a 20-mintue drive away from our development. Ponderosa Zoo's mission is to educate people of all ages and backgrounds on the natural world and the threats species face on a daily basis. They aim to promote the work zoo's do globally through education surrounding conservation. The zoo is home to over 120 animals, so you’re sure to be in for a fun and exciting day!

 

Royal Armouries Leeds

Only a 16-minute drive away in the car, and 45 minutes by train, the Royal Armouries Museum is a great day out no matter what age! Entry into the museum is free and you can find over 8,500 artefacts from the National Collection of Arms and Armour. There are six themed galleries to walk around, as well as the Hall of Steel, where the little (and big) ones can see an amazing tower made from glass and steel that displays everything from canons to spears! Every day different events are held that are suitable for the whole family, including online story videos, discussions, combat demonstrations and fascinating objects.

 

Charlotte’s Jersey Ice Cream

This amazing ice-cream farm is located on the edge of a little village called Whitley at a high point overlooking both Wakefield and Huddersfield. On a clear day, you can see for miles across the Calder Valley, so make sure to take your phone as there are plenty of perfect camera opportunities! From homemade award-winning ice cream and sorbet, to alpacas and wallabies, there’s plenty of activities to keep you and your little ones busy for a good couple of hours.
