The Scarecrow Festival takes place once a year and arrives in Burton Leonard as part of May-fest weekend, which starts on the first May bank holiday. It is one of the village’s most prevalent events. Life in Burton Leonard would be nothing without the great outdoors and there are a variety of great country walks you can take part in, by yourself, with family or with other avid walkers in the area. Some of our favourite Burton Leonard walks include South Stainley, Burton Leonard, and the Lime Quarries Wildlife reserve walk - a straightforward and easy walk in the countryside between Ripon and Harrogate. The route takes you through two villages and a disused quarry site which is managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Alternatively, the Ripon Rowel Walk to Burton Leonard is a linear walk from Ripon which takes you along the banks of the Ripon Canal and the River Ure and through the villages of Bishop Monkton and Burton Leonard.
