Behind The Design with Sara from Interhouse Design

We sat down with Sara Braham from Interhouse Design to discuss what inspired their design for our stunning show home at our Greenholme Mews development in Burley in Wharfedale. Here, Sara shares the thought processes and inspiration behind creating our latest show home.

Q: When designing this show home, what did you draw on for inspiration?

A: The inspiration came from the stunning countryside location. Chartford Homes always build beautiful homes and are an amazing company to work with. We agreed immediately on the vision for a scheme that demonstrated the best in modern country living. We kept the colour palette soft as we didn’t want anything to jar or compete with the amazing views through all the windows. We also wanted to create a scheme that felt like home and were able to achieve this by layering textures, rather than lots of patterns, to create a calm, inviting feel within the show house.

Q: When designing a show home, what’s the main goal that you want to achieve through the design?

A: To create a home that feels luxurious but comfortable, and compliments the stunning views from the windows without competing. The scheme needed to appeal to a broad spectrum of customers who enjoy living in this beautiful part of the world.

Q: What’s the starting point for designing a show home?

A: We began by looking at the space and imagining how the customer is going to live in that space. For example, the stunning ground floor with its bright airy kitchen could accommodate a large dining table for entertaining friends. We also wanted to add a bespoke wall to wall entertainment unit providing ample storage space for a large TV along with a huge corner sofa, for cosy movie nights and family gatherings.

Q: How do you try and ensure that the show home appeals to a wide range of customers through the choice decor?

A: We created a soft palette of colour that we wanted to work with and started to look at layering texture through fabrics and wall coverings. We kept the furniture clean lined and non-fussy, with a mixture of black metal and soft woods.

Q: What brands did you choose to work with when creating this show home?

A: We worked with some of our favourite fabric and wallpaper brands: Romo, Andrew Martin, James Hare and Casamance.

Q: Why do you choose to work with these particular brands when designing show homes?

A: These are the leading brands in Interior Design showcasing the most up to date colour palettes and product quality. At Interhouse Design our passion has always been about using the best quality fabrics and wallpapers in the show homes we design to create aspirational interiors that also feel like home.

Q: Now that the show home is complete, what do you hope people who book a viewing feel and experience?

A: We hope anyone visiting the scheme will immediately feel at home, in a calm and relaxing sanctuary.

Q: What’s the highlight of this finished show home’s design, and why?

A: The biggest wow moment is walking into the kitchen and seeing the stunning crittall-style doors! Before we had our first design meeting with the team at Chartford, we had a creative meeting in our studio and discussed the possibility of using the Crittal doors to separate the areas. We took the ideas to our meeting with Chartford and were thrilled when we discovered they had also been thinking the same thing. The doors add so much to the scheme from filling the ground floor with light, creating a stunning architectural detail, to the practicality of zoning the large ground floor. The end result was even better than we imagined and definitely gives that ‘wow' moment.

We currently have a collection of 4 bedroom homes at our exclusive Greenholme Mews development at Burley in Wharfedale. And our stunning showhome, designed by Interhouse Design, is available to visit. So why not book a viewing here
